North assistant coach Shane Watson has advised the club he will be leaving Arden St to pursue other coaching opportunities.

Watson joined North in 2010 and was part of Brad Scott’s initial coaching team.

From 2010 to 2013, Watson was responsible for the Roos’ defensive line, before spending the following two seasons as the club’s forwards coach, working with the likes of Drew Petrie, Lindsay Thomas and Jarrad Waite.

Watson thanked North Melbourne for its support during his six seasons at Arden St.

“I can’t thank everyone at North enough for giving me my first taste of coaching at AFL level,” Watson said.

“Since 2010, I’ve been able to work with some amazing people both on and off the field.

“Brad and the entire footy club have been terrific for me and I’ve learnt so much in the time that I’ve been at the club.

“For me, it was a really tough decision to leave the Roos, but a new opportunity has presented itself and was one I couldn’t pass up.”

Director of Football Geoff Walsh acknowledged Watson's outstanding contribution.

“Shane has been a tremendous servant over the last six seasons and while we are disappointed to see him go, we are supportive of his decision and wish him all the best in the future,” Walsh said.

Meanwhile North has appointed David Loader as Development Coach.

Formerly head coach of the TAC Cup side, North Ballarat Rebels, Loader will work alongside current development coaches Ben Dyer and Gavin Brown, with Jarred Moore moving into an assistant coaching position.
