North Melbourne will welcome four of Tasmania’s most talented young guns to Arden Street next week.

Rhyan Mansell, 16, Leiwyn Jones, 15, Tarryn Thomas, 16, and Tyran Mansell, 17, members of the club’s Next Generation Academy, are set to spend three days at the club.

The quarter will work with North’s first-year players and the club’s development staff, learning about life as a professional footballer.

“All four are indigenous so fit in the guidelines of this [Next Generation] program, but all four are very talented players,” Women’s Football and Talent Pathway Manager Laura Kane told The Mercury.

“We hope there is an opportunity for more players more often, but this is the start.”

While no Tasmanian youngsters were drafted in 2016, Kane is confident that will soon change.

“Together with AFL Tas we really want to give them exposure and an education to try and increase their chances of getting drafted,” Kane said.

“It was disappointing that nobody got drafted from Tasmania this year, but I think it was an anomaly and hope that with the Next Gen and our partnership we can see some kids drafted in the next few years.”
